“How to make money – Romano thinks that because of the plunge in home prices, patient investors who buy vacation properties today can still do well over the long run. But even with lower home prices, making the numbers work is no sure thing. Concentrate on properties that you can rent out year-round. Look for homes with the space and amenities to appeal to free-spending renters holding events such as family and college reunions, business meetings, and weddings. Big groups share expenses and are critical to helping owners turn a decent buck. It also helps if you have enough cash to make a big down payment, which reduces mortgage costs (but don’t forget to factor the lost investment earnings into your calculations).” Read more…
John Romano was featured on Fox News. One of his best quotes was, “With Social Media so prevalent we are all very visible. John Romano was featured on two different radio shows on CBC. The interviews were about 15 minutes. His favorite quote was when he poked fun at some of the self-acclaimed great SEO Strategist, “Some SEOs claim to be magicians, but they can’t simply place a site at the top of search engines when there are millions of others trying to do the same thing. The great SEOs are the ones that have a proven track record and have helped generate millions for their clients or themselves.”
“John Romano, a vacation rental property owner who markets his properties on VRWD.com, which stands for Vacation Rentals Web Directory, started a companion site in 2006 called Vacation Rentals Watchdog — VRWD.org — where people can go to gripe. There you will find scary stories about people who put down thousands of dollars in security deposits and travel hundreds or thousands of miles only to discover stained couches, cobweb-covered grills, dilapidated patio furniture, ant infestations and worse. Some stick it out. Others take the loss, spending additional thousands of dollars for alternative lodging.” Read more…
